Rules and takedowns
Demands,
not accusations.
What a cause is
A cause names one to six organizations and one action they should take. It is a public demand, backed by a market. It is not a statement of fact, a review, a verdict or a petition about a person.
Allowed
- Companies, protocols, exchanges, apps, DAOs, institutions and public bodies, named as organizations.
- Asking them to do something: list, publish, answer, fix, support, refund, explain, reconsider.
- Opinions about decisions, products and policies, and links to public sources.
Not allowed
- Private individuals as targets, and any person named in a way that is about them rather than a decision of their organization.
- Claims or hints of fraud, theft, crimes, lies or other wrongdoing, whether or not you believe them.
- Insults, threats, harassment, hate, sexual content, and anything about someone's private life.
- Personal data: home addresses, phone numbers, family members, non-public documents.
- Using a target's logo, or its name or trademark as a ticker. Alter sets every ticker and uses no logos.
- Anything illegal where you or the target are, including market manipulation and securities offers.
How the rules are enforced
- The create form checks every field before anything is signed and refuses what breaks the rules.
- The site checks every cause again before showing it, so a cause opened directly through the contract still does not appear.
- Reports are reviewed by a person. A cause that breaks the rules is hidden and the decision is written on-chain with its reason, in public.
Alter cannot delete a token: causes live on Pons and Robinhood Chain. Hiding removes it from this site and from everything Alter promotes; the token keeps whatever market it has elsewhere.
For targets: replies, reviews and takedowns
- Reply. Post from your organization's official X account. We verify the account once and attach your reply to the cause, word for word, on-chain.
- Review. If a cause breaks these rules or the law, tell us which cause (ALT-number), what is wrong and how to reach you. We answer within 72 hours, and hide first while we review anything that looks like a legal claim.
- Legal notice. Formal notices go to the same address, with your full name, the organization, the cause and the reason.
